Jason, recalls and shares the story of how and why Total Horizon's came to be, and how he planned to make a difference.
the influential trip to arches
national park, utah
In 2014, I embarked on a personal journey filled with hiking and photography in Arches National Park, Utah.
This photography trip to Utah was more of an escape, time to process, and attempt to start my life again after losing my son Jacob to a drug overdose.
For years, my son Jacob was struggling to try to find his way as a young adult. He was feeling lost, incompetent and was clearly on the wrong path.
the loss hope
Jacob was prescribed a variety of pain medications, which he began to abuse. After being restricted from these medications, he moved on to harder drugs, including heroin.
When Jacob was 20 years old, I became aware of his herion use, I was relieved and hopeful when he agreed to go to a treatment center in California. He came home and we planned to meet the following day, but sadly in less than 24 hours he was gone forever from a prescription drug overdose.
the tragedy to change
On this trip I too would have a brush with death being caught in a lightning storm at night. This experience as a pivotal point for me. It put things in perspective and set me on a new journey with a mission for my life.
The fact is this is now my truth, my life, and my life. Like most people touched by tragedy, it goes one of two ways : It either destroys them or it makes them stronger and sets them on a mission. Change can be painful but the reward is in the end
from struggle to mission
To be transparent, I become extremely close to completely unravelling and giving up. It was at times, and can still be, a mental roller coaster of emotions. It has taken me some times to process, as the loss of a child is not something easily resolved. I refuse to allow what has happened to define me or my life. Life is short and I am going to do my part to make a positive impact where I am here.
This is now my mission. I now have a team of people, the mission is set, and we are determined to make a difference! Join us!
Photo4change is a collaboration of people willing to make a real difference. With every photo donated, 100% of the proceeds will be use to help people struggling with substance abuse. We donated 100% of all the proceeds from Photo4change.
We will also donate a portion of our profit from all our products to The Freedom Model. they focus on breaking the chains of the endless addition and recovery cycle, They primarily focus on people that have not found success with the traditional model.
It was on this trip that I envisioned the 121 Elite Product Line.
Like many others with passion and love for photography. I struggled to find the perfect bag, so I decided to take my life in a new direction and create my own bags.
Jacob's birthdate was 1-21-94. This is where Total Horizons 121 Elite Camera Bag Series gets it's name. We are determined to help make a difference by donating a portion of our profits to help people struggling with substance abuse.
Combined with our efforts from our side project - Photo4change, to get we will make a difference!
